How to get there
From Greece there are direct flights to Istanbul, leaving from Athens. From other Greek cities there are connecting flights to Istanbul with Olympic Air and Aegean via Athens. From Cyprus there are connecting flights from Larnaca via Athens and Cairo. The airlines that carry out flights to Istanbul are Olympic Air, Aegean and Turkish Airlines more specifically:

Airports
Istanbul has two airports, the Atatürk International Airport and the Sabiha
Gökçen Airport. Istanbul’s airports are big and comfortable and offer many services
to the travellers. Both airports have restaurants, cafeterias, shops, automatic banking
machines (ΑΤΜ), travel agencies and of course ticket desks for air tickets. The transfer
from the airports to the center of Istanbul is done easily and comfortably with the
various means of transport.
Atatürk International Airport
Atatürk Airport which is Istanbul’s central airport
is located 28 kilometres from the centre of the city ( Sultanahmet Square). Various
transportation means depart from the airport to the centre of Istanbul.
Trains
The metro station is right across the airport (Havalimani station) from where you
can catch the train, get off at Zeytiburnu station and continue with the tram line
Zeytinburnu-
Buses
Havas buses depart from all the airport’s terminals for Taksim Square (European Istanbul) in Istanbul. The journey lasts approximately 60 minutes, depending on the traffic and the ticket costs 9 Turkish pounds. Bus 96T departs from Atatürk airport and has a route towards Yenikapi, Aksaray square and Taksim square. The buses begin their service at 04:00 and stop at 01:00. There is a bus from the airport every 30 minutes. After 01:00 there are less frequent buses. The journey lasts approximately 40 minutes and the ticket is cheaper than the one for Havas buses.
Taxi
The taxi from the airport to the centre of Istanbul can cost around 30 Turkish pounds, but if you choose to transfer via taxi after midnight then the tariff is double.
Sabiha Gökçen Airport
Sabiha Gökçen airport is located 50 kilometres from the centre
of Istanbul (European Istanbul) but the travelers can use the means of transport
and move towards the city easily and comfortably.
Buses
Havas buses depart every 25 minutes from the airport to Taksim square, Beyoglu area (European Istanbul) from where you can catch the metro to your final destination. The ticket costs 9.50 Turkish pounds. E10 bus departs from the airport every 30 minutes during the day, and every 60 minutes from 21:00 to 06:00 and its final stop is at Kadiköy.

Taxis are always available outside the airport but the transfer to Istanbul can cost
