How to get there

From Greece and Cyprus there are not direct flights to Chicago, the best option is a connecting flight through a European capital. The airlines that carry out connecting flights from Greece and Cyprus to Chicago are: Delta, Turkish Airlines, LOT, Swiss, KLM, Alitalia, Lufthansa and Cyprus Airways more specifically:

The above airlines are landed at the two major airport of Chicago, the Airport O’Hare and the Airport Midway (more information below). Chicago Airports
There are 5 airports in Chicago. The 2 biggest are O’Hare International Airport and Midway International Airport which serve all international flights whereas General Mitchell Airport, Rockford Airport and Gary Airport mainly serve domestic flights.


O’Hare International Airport

O’Hare International Airport is located 29 kilometres from the centre of Chicago and has 4 terminals which are connected via a free train that operates during the entire day and night.

 

At the O’Hare International Airport there are many cafeterias, snack bars, restaurants, bars, shops, duty free shops, a playground, a chapel, a bank, ATM machines, exchange offices, travel agencies and of course ticket desks for flight reservations. Travelers can transfer from the airport to the centre of the city by train, bus or taxi.


Trains

The airport’s train (Blue line), which operates 24 hours a day, will transfer you easily and comfortably to central Chicago. The journey to the centre of the city lasts 45 minutes. There is a train every 10 minutes during the day and the ticket costs $2.25.


Buses

Continental Airport Express Bus Line stops at all the airport’s terminals and its final stop is the centre of Chicago as well as other areas of the city. The bus to the city’s centre departs every 10 minutes from 06:00 until 23:30. The ticket costs $18 and it can be purchased at the company’s ticket kiosks inside each terminal.


Taxi

Outside every terminal of the airport there are available taxis that can transfer you to the centre of the city. Although the journey does not last more than 1 hour, a taxi can cost up to $40.


Midway International Airport
Midway International Airport is situated 16 kilometers from the centre of Chicago and it is a quiet airport that serves many low budget flights. At the airport’s premises there are information desks, telephones, ATM machines, exchange offices, wireless connection to the internet, restaurants, cafeterias, bars, shops, travel agencies and of course ticket desks for flight reservations.


Trains

There is a train (Orange line) from Midway Airport that has a service to the centre of Chicago and the journey lasts 30 minutes. There are regular schedules and the ticket costs $2.25.


Buses

Continental Airport Express Bus Line has a service to the centre of Chicago and other areas in the city. The bus for the city centre departs every 15 minutes from 06:00 until 23:30. The ticket costs $19 and it can be purchased from the information and ticket kiosk near the bus station at the arrivals’ ground floor (LL3).


Taxi

Travellers can find many taxis at the arrivals’ ground floor that can transfer them to central Chicago. All taxis operate with taximeters but the journey from the airport to Chicago can cost a lot.
